I have seen mixed reviews on this. The only benefit that I see is that you can plant the tomato (upside down) and plant something else in the top. This might work really well for those will very little space. I have read numerous posts from people t…

Unfortunately I do all of my planting on an apartment balcony. I'd like to do some tomatoes this year. Are there any advantages to upside-down planting, as opposed to regular potting?

My parents did this last year, worked fine. I would definitely "Do it yourself" instead of paying for those topsy-turvy ones. Only thing you might watch is on the whole you cut, be sure to cover the edge of it something a bit spongey, as it will cut…

has anyone ever tried this? My friend uses a 5 gallon bucket and drills a hole in the bottom, and puts the plant in upside down, the fill with dirt, and hangs it in her tree! It was pretty cool, and it produced many tomatoes, and hey NO WEEDING! I a…

I love jalapenos! I water them when they are young, but as they get bigger, I water them once a week because the dryer it is the hotter! Some will be red then they will turn green!

Oh yes, I really like the 3 Muskateers on your fence! That is such a neat different look. I have gotten to where I love garden art of all kinds.

Kellie, Good to know that you already had an idea of what to get for the soil. So being raised in Dalhart then you definitely know about the soil needs for you garden. Don't forget the peat moss too!

Sandy is correct about the cannas and not too mention they are absolutely beautiful with other greenery placed around them. Almost like you can have your own little Texas rainforest look.

Hi Kellie! I have a suggestion for you. Cannas are so good for our climate. I have them around the fence in the back yard and have to thin them every year. My Cannas are scattered all over Midland because so many have started their gardens from my extra bulbs. I will be happy to share with you. I have yellow and orange in abundance. They will bloom all summer.

Thanks Kellie! I have a neice that lives in Amarillo and a few years ago I got her a front yard garden started and the soil was awful. So we went to Walmart and picked up some play sand, peat moss, manure and some regular gardening soil and tilled it into her existing soil. That was a hard mornings work. Then we went to a local nursery there (sorry can't remember the name) and picked out some plants good for the Amarillo area. She already had 3 existing peony bushes that are absolutely beautiful so I planned around them. She was so happy with the finished product and now years later it is a nicely established garden give or take a few plants that didn't make it or that she wanted to change.

Good Luck and watch for a local native plant sale in your area.

Living in Amarillo and awaiting Spring-time so I can get out in the yard and start planting!

I enjoy gardening and can't wait til Spring to start planting and designing my yard!! It is gonna be wonderful! My soil is not the best, but I plan to bring in soil and mix with mine, so maybe this year will be better than the rest!
