Mary, Also, Oleanders are poisonous to domestic animals (wild animals & birds have more common sense) and Nancy is more than correct in her alergy warnings for humans. When I first moved here, I fell in love with the Oleander bush and thought it wo…

Good morning Ann, Everything on discount at Alredge requires immediate attention. Casa Verde is the best. Our Son is doing landscaping and property maintenance. Your burrs will require 3 yrs of application of Baylan?sp,twice a year and bagging of all lawn clippings. These are real tough ones. The process can be hastened if able to remove the plants before the burrs mature. A very sticky job unless you use a weed popper. Beware how you dispose of these. They will remain dormant for years and when the soil is turned later are back again. Forget removing burmuda from your beds. An easy solution is several layers of newspapers, cardboard of the professional sheeting covered with plenty of mulch, wood chips, stone or ground granite works. I've also had success in lowering my beds below the lawn level by 4-6in. I treat the nutgrass with "emerge" in a spray bottle which is attached to the lawn hose and burmuda with remedy very carefully as any drift will kill wanted plants as well. Thus the challenge of a warm day with no wind and a cardboard or other sheild for protection. I too lived in Massachusetts for many years and have a lilac bush(5+yrs) that has never blosomed, I keep hoping tho. Later

Thanks Ann, We have lived in W TX for 30/50 yrs. I love gardening but am now limited physically. This past year was a poor one. We lost or was unable to start 2 kiwis, 2 passion vines, 2 trumpet vines and some others. The heat was just too much. We are working to finish our landscaping out soon. Our aims are nurturing our hummingbirds which visit most of the year, butterflies and fruit trees. I'm looking at native, such as sage, columbine, turks cap, native petunias an apple and pear tree. Any suggestions are welcome.
