West Texas Gardening

Since I was little I have loved flowers and all sorts of plants. Now that I find myself with more time on my hands I want to start my own garden. But I have no idea where to start...any suggestions? I would appreciate everyone of them. thank you.

God bless,
Brenda

I've started trying to grow more hibiscus this year and they are doing fine but take lots of water and fertilizer and occasional pesticide (growing the state flower of Hawaii in arid West Texas). If you like roses, try Earth Kind. They are a group of 13 rose varieties that A&M has determined grow well without pesticides. I have a Belinda's Dream and two Climbing Pinkies and they are trouble free so far. I think only one nursery in Odessa carries them here but you might do a Google search and find out more. Good luck.

Thank you for you help. I would also like to know when you can cut your oleander bushes back. Mine are in bloom but are just too tall.
